Educator and Public Speaker

In addition to his professional practice, Darius is a passionate educator and public speaker committed to cultivating the next generation of design leaders. As an adjunct professor in the Architecture and Community Planning program at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC), he teaches both the first-year architecture studio and the graduate-level urban design studio. His teaching approach is rooted in real-world problem solving, exposing students to practical applications of design while building critical thinking and community-driven values.

Darius believes that addressing disparities and racial inequity in the built environment begins with early exposure and representation. His pedagogy is focused on being present, visible, and relatable—showing underrepresented students that they belong in the profession. He is skilled in curriculum development and leads engaging, culturally resonant instruction that empowers students to see themselves as change-makers.

During the summer, Darius partners with STEMcx, a faith-based nonprofit dedicated to inspiring underrepresented minority students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Through this partnership, he mentors high school students and introduces them to architecture and urban design. He leads hands-on workshops, builds customized curricula, and facilitates a summer internship experience that centers exposure, creativity, and purpose.

As a speaker, Darius brings authenticity and a powerful perspective shaped by his lived experience as a Black man from Baltimore City. He frequently presents on topics related to design equity, public space, and the intersection of race and the built environment. His speaking engagements include the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA), Neighborhood Design Center, UDC, and Morgan State University.
