TYPOLOGY Multimodal Green Infrastructure
Completion In Progress
Location Baltimore, MD
The Equitable Network Trail is a transformative, multimodal corridor linking Druid Hill Park and Carroll Park, two of Baltimore’s largest historic parks, through the heart of West Baltimore. Designed to foster safe, accessible, and community-centered mobility, the project connects residents to the larger Baltimore Green Trail Network while prioritizing investment in historically underrepresented neighborhoods of the “Black Butterfly.”
Focused on equity, the trail integrates new and enhanced connections through public spaces and right of ways, offering pedestrian and bike-friendly streetscapes along corridors such as Mount Street and Gilmor Street. The project also envisions microtransit solutions, such as community shuttles, and development opportunities to catalyze affordable housing, local economic development, and neighborhood revitalization along the trail’s footprint.
We are coleading community engagement for the trail, designing and facilitating hands-on design workshops and Community Design Days that invited residents, youth, and stakeholders to cocreate trail nodes and envision new uses for vacant land. We also established key partnerships with organizations such as Parks & People, National Parks Service, Bon Secours Community Works, and the Maryland State Archives to support capital investment and long-term stewardship.
Current efforts include planning a public symposium and lecture series to raise awareness, build momentum, and deepen civic dialogue around equitable infrastructure investment in West Baltimore.
